Overall, borrowing books remained the most common reason for visiting the library in 2023, while the number of visits made by children and adults followed opposite trends over time, with children's visits surpassing adults' by the most recent year.
In terms of how the library was used, borrowing books accounted for the largest share of visits in 2023, at thirty-five percent, followed by study space at twenty-five percent and computer or internet use at twenty percent. Together, these three activities made up eighty percent of all visits, while attending events and other uses accounted for just fifteen percent and five percent respectively.
Turning to the bar chart, adults made considerably more visits than children in both 2000 and 2010, at 60,000 and 50,000 respectively, compared with 25,000 and 35,000 for children. However, the two trends moved in opposite directions throughout the period: adult visits declined continuously, while children's visits rose continuously, and by 2023 the pattern had reversed entirely, with children recording 55,000 visits compared with just 35,000 for adults.
